Finished Gustin Stock
Maple stock with ebony pistol grip cap. The owner of this rifle wanted to have all of his rifles match and for this one to mimic his smallbore rifle. I worked on his smallbore rifle which had a Karl Kenyon action and he went on to win The Made in America Match at Camp Perry. Last year, at the Wildcat Match, he won a certificate to have a rifle built. This one has a Gilkes Ross action.

Mango Blanks Just in from Hawaii
These will need to dry for some time before I can work with them. One of the blanks has quite a bit of fiddleback, And the other blank has a nice speckling. If you are looking for something different, all of these will make a unique custom stock.

Here is an example of a mango stock I finished a few months ago.

Pattern for Duplicating Open F-Class Rifle Stock
Lately there have been requests for an F class open stock. I have created a pattern for my duplicating machine. One of the unique things on the stock is that the rear slider is relieved so it does not drag on the bags.

Barnard Action Being Fitted I Anschutz Thumbhole Stock
This project was a challenge. I was sent a thumbhole stock and need to put a length of pull adjustment from 12.5″ to 14″ and needed fit pieces on the rear wood, because of the sizes of the hardware. I had to redesign the buttplate to use the Anschutz buttplate and the cheek riser. The size the action is conciderably larger than the orginal Anschutz. This also involved making a trigger guard to adapt to the Barnard trigger. This project reminded me of when put a 327 Corvette motor into a 100/6 Austin Healy.

Light Weight Prototype F-class F/TR using spruce
I started this project three or four months ago, planning to develop a rifle stock that can be used for prone shooting and F-TR and still have rigidity in the stock. Some stocks are not as rigid as they should be for F-TR. There is a fine balance between making a stock light enough to use a heavy barrel and having it be strong enough. By using a lighter wood stock material like spruce, I could keep the full size of the stock, and maintain the rigidity. Including buttplate and cheek adjuster, it is 3 1/2 pounds, and probably with some adjustments I could get it under 3 pounds.

Barnard Action being Fitted in Anschutz Thumbhole Stock
The cheekpiece riser is installed, and the machined parts to adapt and Anschutz buttplate is installed.
I was able to achieve a length of pull from 12-1/2 to 14 inches.

Mango Long Range Palma Prone Rifle Face Lift
“A new Mango stock with paramount action for Palma competition, built to my specifications.. Mango is light, figured and bright. I have one other Mango stock, and it only gets better and better with age. Butt plate is Anschutz, pistol grip cap is Koa, cheek piece is magnetic. Sights will be Right sight on front and Warner on rear. Thanks, Doan, for a great job.”

Turning a 5/16 inch into a quarter inch action screw
The problem is when using the standard button head screw The Allen socket will strip out. By using a 5/16 inch button head screw, you can use a 3/16 inch Allen wrench. I have to turn them down and rethread them to 1/4-28 tpi.
