Stippling Vostok Forend

March 9, 2010

The stippling on the forend has been done with the same stippling that is on the grips (no border).  It is quite plain and utilitarian.  The original forend was missing, and the owner wanted a new one with a Schnabel.

Exhibition Grade Prone Rifle – Mike

December 11, 2009

I just started on a prone rifle, which may also be used for TR.  The wood is a spectacular piece of Walnut.

Forming and shaping pistol grip cap.  The cap gives a little extra length to the pistol grip.

Removing material to create space for hand below cheekpiece

Moving………. Part 1 … Pratt & Whitney Lathe

February 7, 2009

Moving under any circumstances is difficult…… moving an entire machine shop without heavy equipment machinery movers is an undertaking.  Sue and I are relocating to Albuquerque, NM  - so far we have three pods (one and a half already loaded)  and will probably need a 26 ft. truck.  The pods are necessary because they can be loaded at ground level -a requirement when you’re moving a 3200# lathe by hand.  Yesterday Ray Del Rio and Gary Elisio’s son Jeremy (dad was in Phoenix this weekend shooting) helped move the lathe.  This is why I’m not in Phoenix this weekend. Today Mike Tuck helped secure the lathe to the inside of the pod and move lots of other stuff.  Any able bodies in  Southern California are more than welcome to join the fun!

Making a Bloob Tube (Sight Extender) Clamp for Competetion Target Shooting

January 9, 2009

It’s hard to see in the picture, but it’s made with an offset – not concentric – to be able to save weight on the clamp.  Available in different lengths from 9″ to 24″.  I’ve also made them in carbon fiber to save weight.bloob-tube-img_2228
