The stippling on the forend has been done with the same stippling that is on the grips (no border). It is quite plain and utilitarian. The original forend was missing, and the owner wanted a new one with a Schnabel.

This is an exhibition grade piece of fiddleback maple. The blank was too narrow to make the 3″ width necessary for the fore end, so I am inlaying walnut strips to bring it up to the proper width. I’ll put a matching pistol grip cap on it and carve in a right hand pistol grip.

I just started on a prone rifle, which may also be used for TR. The wood is a spectacular piece of Walnut.

Forming and shaping pistol grip cap. The cap gives a little extra length to the pistol grip.

Removing material to create space for hand below cheekpiece

Shaping Pistol Grip.

This is the barrel that Krieger donated for the Raffle Rifle. The end is cut off the barrel, the center is located (see next picture) and the outside is turned to center.

This is a H&H Ian Robertson stock that I modified the pistol grip on to match the owner’s wooden stocks that I have done in the past that were Culbertson patterns with a slightly larger pistol grip. I modified the grip to make it larger, matched the color and the silver pattern, installed butt plates, removeable cheek piece, bedding for a Barnard action, and made the trigger guard. The stock is a composite stock – from time to time I do work on composite stocks, although most of my stock work is with wood. Working with composite materials stems from when I spent years building custom motorcycles – show bikes.

The template for the left handed grip is complete, and ready to be sent off to the duplicator. It’s painted silver to give it a bit of a slippery surface.
